πŸ“ From The Desk Of Andrew Cass

For most of my twenty years in business, the rules for getting found barely moved...

Do good work. Get people talking. Show up where your buyers are looking.

The tactics changed plenty. Yellow pages, then websites, then Google, then social media. But the game underneath stayed the same.

Then AI showed up and rewrote it...

Everyone's focused on what tools like ChatGPT can do for their business. Write the email. Summarize the meeting. Build the proposal. Almost nobody is paying attention to what those same tools are doing to their business, specifically to how buyers find who to hire.

Your prospects aren't just using AI at work. They're using it to make decisions. And that shift is already deciding who gets the call in your market.

The Main Event breaks down what changed, why good businesses are losing ground without seeing it, and what decides who wins now.

Then Your Implementation Blueprint shows you exactly where you stand today. Three questions, one scorecard, under fifteen minutes.

Do you know what AI tells people when they ask about your business?

Let's go!

LIVE Workshop: How To Add AI Services To The Offer You Already Sell

‼️ Read this one closely. It's live, it's two days, and it starts Monday

You don't need a new business to grow revenue this year. You need a better version of the offer you already sell...

Keep the service your clients already love. Now add AI on top of it. Calls answered after hours. Leads followed up in minutes instead of days. Appointments booked while you sleep.

Suddenly your offer isn't just a service anymore. It's a premium tier, a reason to raise your price, and something clients pay for every single month. The catch is that most business owners bolt AI on, throw in a number, and hope it sticks.

That's where Mike Cooch comes in...

His last company hit $300,000 a month in recurring revenue in its first year. He's running a live, two-day workshop called Start Your AI Business. Don't let the name fool you. You're not starting over. You're learning how to build, price, and sell AI services inside the business you already have.

Already selling AI? You'll finally package it the right way. Not selling it yet? You'll know exactly what to add and what to charge for it.

LIVE this Monday and Tuesday, September 21 and 22, at 12 PM EDT.

β€œAI Search Is the New β€˜Referral’”

Every week, we break down the big-picture strategy behind the shifts happening in businessβ€”so you can see around corners while others are still catching up.

A business owner decides it's finally time to replace her bookkeeper. Two years ago she would have texted three friends, or typed "bookkeeper near me" into Google and opened a few tabs.

This time she opens ChatGPT and types one sentence. "Who's the best bookkeeper in Tampa for a small agency?"

It gives her two names. A sentence on each. Why they're a fit, what clients say, how to reach them.

She calls the first one. And just like that, the decision is over for everyone else, including the bookkeeper three miles away with better reviews, a nicer website, and twelve years of happy clients.

That bookkeeper will never know the search happened. No lost bid. No "we went another direction" email. Just a phone that rang a little less this month, for a reason nobody can see.

The Shift That Happened In Twelve Months

Every year, BrightLocal surveys consumers on how they find and choose local businesses. Their 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers found 45 percent now use AI tools like ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, or Gemini to find local businesses. A year earlier, that number was 6 percent.

Not 6 percent growth. From 6 percent to 45 percent, in one year. AI is now the third most used source for local business recommendations, behind only Google and Facebook.

And people believe what it tells them. BrightLocal found 40 percent of consumers trust AI for business recommendations, while 32 percent don't.

Read that again as a service-based business owner. Almost half your market has started asking a machine who to hire, and more of them trust the answer than doubt it.

Why This Is A Referral, Not A Search

Google gives you a list. Ten links, a map with three pins, ads stacked on top. The buyer does the sorting. Even if you rank fourth, you're still on the page.

AI doesn't hand over a list. It hands over a recommendation. One name, maybe two, with a reason attached.

That's a referral. The same thing that happens when a friend says "use my guy, he's great," except now it happens thousands of times a day, and you have no relationship with whoever is making it.

So every rule you already know about referrals applies. You get named or you don't. There is no page two.

The 1.2 Percent Problem

So how many businesses actually get named?

SOCi's 2026 Local Visibility Index studied nearly 350,000 locations. ChatGPT recommended 1.2 percent of them, Gemini 11 percent, and Perplexity 7.4 percent. Those same businesses showed up in Google's local map pack 35.9 percent of the time.

SOCi estimates AI visibility is three to 30 times harder to earn than a good ranking in traditional local search.

And that data comes from multi-location brands with marketing departments and real budgets. If they're mostly invisible, the average independent service business isn't doing better.

Run The Math

Put a number on it…

Say 200 people in your market go looking for what you do this month. At 45 percent, 90 of them ask an AI somewhere along the way.

If your name isn't in the answer, you didn't lose those 90 to a better pitch or a lower price. You never made the shortlist.

Now say 1 in 15 of them would have reached out to you under the old rules. That's six conversations. Close one in three and that's two new clients a month.

At a $3,000 average engagement, that's $6,000 a month. $72,000 a year. Walking to whoever the machine decided to name.

How The Machine Decides

AI isn't picking names at random, and it isn't picking the biggest advertiser. It's picking the business it feels most confident about. Three things build that confidence.

Reputation. In the SOCi data, businesses ChatGPT recommended averaged 4.3 stars. Brands with inaccurate profiles and ratings near 3.4 stars barely appeared at all. A middling business can still rank on Google because it's close by. AI simply leaves it out.

Consistency. SOCi found business profile details were only about 68 percent accurate on ChatGPT and Perplexity. Old phone numbers. Wrong hours. A service you stopped offering in 2022. Every mismatch between your website, your Google profile, and the directories that list you gives the machine one more reason to name somebody else.

Footprint. AI needs something to say about you. An earlier BrightLocal study found ChatGPT's local results drew on business websites 58 percent of the time, mentions of the business elsewhere 27 percent, and directories 15 percent.

Where Most Owners Fall Apart

Consistency is a one-afternoon fix. Reputation and footprint are not.

They're weekly work. Asking every happy client for a review. Answering the reviews that come in. Publishing content that tells the internet who you serve, what you do, and where.

None of it is hard. All of it is the first thing to disappear the moment you get busy. And the machine notices when the signals stop.

Why Most Owners Will Miss This

Because nothing breaks.

Your Google ranking holds. Your reviews look fine. Nobody calls to tell you ChatGPT recommended your competitor. The leads just thin out a little, quarter after quarter, and it gets blamed on the economy, or the season, or the ads.

The good news: almost nobody has looked yet. Right now a small service business can show up alongside companies ten times its size. That window closes once everyone else figures this out.

Start By Asking The Machine

Before you touch your website or chase a single review, find out what AI actually says about you today. Not what you assume. What it says.

Your Implementation Blueprint below walks you through it. Three AI tools, three questions, one scorecard. Under 15 minutes, and you'll know exactly where you stand.

And if your score shows a gap, I've included the resource I point business owners to for keeping reviews and content working every week, even when you're buried in client work.

πŸ’‘ Your Implementation Blueprint

Here's where strategy meets action. Each week, we give you the tactical steps to implement what you just learnedβ€”so you can capitalize on the insight immediately.

Ask The Machine About You

Time: about 10 minutes. You need three free tools: ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Where you can, use a temporary chat or a logged-out window so your own search history doesn't nudge the answers.

Step 1: Write Your Three Buyer Questions (2 Minutes)

Write them the way a prospect would type them, not the way you'd describe yourself.

  1. The Direct Ask: "Who is the best [your service] in [your city] for [your ideal client]?"

  2. The Problem Ask: "I need help with [the problem you solve]. Who should I hire in [your city]?"

  3. The Name Check: "What do you know about [your business name]?"

Example for a bookkeeper: "Who is the best bookkeeper in Tampa for a small marketing agency?"

Step 2: Run All Three In All Three Tools (5 Minutes)

That's nine answers total. Paste each one into a note as you go. Don't judge yet, just collect.

Answers can shift a little from one run to the next. That's normal. You're looking for the pattern, not one perfect result.

Step 3: Fill In Your Scorecard (3 Minutes)

For each answer, mark three things:

  • Named: Did your business show up in question 1 or 2?

  • Instead: Who got named? Write down every competitor.

  • Accurate: In question 3, are your services, location, phone, and hours correct?

Give yourself one point every time you were named in questions 1 and 2 (six possible). Add one point for each tool that got your details right (three possible). Total it out of 9.

What Your Score Means

  • 0 to 2: You're invisible. The buyers asking AI this week are being handed to someone else.

  • 3 to 5: You're on the edge. Named sometimes, missing or wrong the rest of the time.

  • 6 to 9: You're in the answer. Now the job is staying there while competitors catch on.

Then look at your "Instead" column. If one competitor keeps showing up, pull up their Google profile and count their reviews. That's the bar the machine is holding you to.

Close The Gap

If any tool got your details wrong, that's a one-afternoon fix. Correct your information on your website, your Google Business Profile, and every directory that lists you, so everything matches.

Reviews and content are the part that doesn't stay fixed. They need attention every week, whether you're slammed or not, and that's exactly where most business owners slip.

That's what HighLevel's AI Agent Suite is built to handle. Reviews AI responds to your reviews as they come in. Content AI keeps publishing the posts that give the machine something to find. The signals keep stacking while you run the business.

πŸ’¬ Quote Of The Week

What's Your Tech Stack Really Costing You?

Here's the ugly truth: the average business owner is running 6 to 12 software subscriptions right now. Overlapping tools. Duplicate features. Money bleeding out every single month between $400 and $1,600 β€” and they have no idea it's happening.

So we built something to expose it. A proprietary SaaS Calculator designed specifically to help business owners cut waste and increase cash flow β€” it rips your entire tech stack apart in seconds and shows you exactly what you can reclaim starting today.

Most owners are shocked when they see their own number, and even more shocked to find $500 to $1,000 of it was pure waste they could've cut months ago.

Brace yourself!
