πŸ“ From The Desk Of Andrew Cass

I've been watching something quietly shift over the last few months β€” and most business owners haven't caught up to it yet...

A year ago, telling someone "we use AI" was enough to raise eyebrows. It meant you were ahead. Sharp. Modern. Today, that same sentence lands with a shrug. Of course you use AI. Everyone uses AI. The question has completely changed on us β€” and the operators still answering the old one are getting left behind without realizing it.

Here's the truth: the AI adoption curve is over. And it closed a lot faster than anyone expected.

That's what this week's Main Event is about. The early-mover edge has expired. The new advantage isn't whether you're using AI β€” it's how deeply you've deployed it. And the gap between surface-level use and genuine deployment is where the next five years of competition is going to be decided.

If you want to know exactly where you stand, I've put together a quick AI Deployment Audit in the Implementation Blueprint below. Five minutes. Straight diagnostic. It'll show you the gaps hiding in your business right now β€” and what to do about them (And I'll even show you how my team and I can build a full AI Suite FOR you!)

As always, The Growth Stack team has curated three Top Reads for you this week. The piece from Inc. looks at six consulting trends reshaping service businesses in 2026 β€” and why the market is splitting in ways most operators haven't prepared for. The Morningstar read pulls together long-term investing wisdom from some of Wall Street's sharpest voices β€” and pushes back hard on the panic-driven thinking that costs investors the most during volatile stretches. And the Fortune piece pulls back the curtain on the personal wellness goals top CEOs are setting for 2026 β€” a reminder that the people running billion-dollar companies treat recovery the same way they treat revenue: with targets, tracking, and zero excuses.

So as you think about where your business stands right now, forget the question "Am I using AI?" Ask instead: Is AI actually running my business β€” or am I still just running to AI?

That's the question that separates the next five years...

Let's go!

πŸ“’ The Main Event

"The AI Adoption Curve Is Over (That Was Fast!)"

Every week, we break down the big-picture strategy behind the shifts happening in businessβ€”so you can see around corners while others are still catching up.

The early-mover edge has expired. Here's where the real advantage moved…

Twelve months ago, simply using AI in your business was a competitive advantage.

You didn't need to use it well. You didn't need to use it deeply. You just needed to use it. Drafting emails with ChatGPT, summarizing meetings with an AI notetaker, generating a few social posts with Claude β€” that was enough to put you ahead of 80% of your market.

Those days are gone.

The adoption curve closed faster than anyone predicted. What took the internet a decade to normalize, AI normalized in twelve months. Mind-blowing.

And the operators who thought they had time to "figure it out next quarter" are waking up to a new reality: everyone has the tools now.

The edge moved.

Adoption Was Never The Real Advantage

Here's what most business owners missed about the AI gold rush…

The advantage was never the AI itself. The advantage was being early to a tool that was still scarce. Once the tool stopped being scarce β€” once your competitor, your client, and your client's college-age intern all had access to the same models β€” adoption stopped meaning anything.

It became table stakes.

This is the part nobody wants to admit out loud…

If your AI strategy still consists of "I use ChatGPT regularly" or "we've started using AI for content," you don't have an AI strategy. You have an AI habit. And habits don't create moats.

Read that again.

The operators winning right now figured this out a year ago. They stopped asking whether to use AI and started asking a much harder question: β€œHow deeply is AI actually embedded in the way my business runs?”

That's the question that matters now. And it's the one most service-based business owners haven't sat with long enough.

Surface Use vs. Deployed Systems

There's a massive difference between using AI and deploying AI.

Surface use looks like this: you open a chat window when you need something written. You paste in a prompt. You copy the output. You close the tab. The AI lives outside your business β€” a tool you visit, not a system that runs.

Deployment looks completely different. Deployment means AI is inside your business. It's answering your phone when you can't. It's engaging your website visitors at 11pm. It's responding to every Google review without you lifting a finger. It's running your follow-up sequences, your funnel builds, your content calendar β€” quietly, continuously, in the background.

Surface use is a tool you grab. Deployment is infrastructure you build.

The gap between these two states is what the next phase of competition is going to be decided on. And right now, the gap is enormous. Most operators are still living in the surface-use world β€” convinced they're "doing AI" because they've got a paid ChatGPT subscription and a few favorite prompts saved in a Google Doc.

That's not deployment. That's just adoption with extra steps.

Where The Real Edge Lives Now

The new advantage isn't access to AI. It's three things most operators are still ignoring…

Depth. How many parts of your business does AI actually touch? One? Three? Ten? The operators pulling away aren't using AI better in one place β€” they're using it across every place. Voice. Chat. Reviews. Content. Funnels. Workflows. Each one a system, not a session.

Integration. Is your AI talking to itself? Or is each tool a disconnected island? The real moat shows up when your Voice AI hands off to your Conversation AI which feeds into your Workflow AI β€” all sitting on the same foundation, all sharing the same context. Most operators have a stack of disconnected AI tools. The winners have a system.

Proprietary Context. This is the deepest moat of all. Generic AI gives generic output. AI trained on your business β€” your offers, your voice, your customer language, your sales process β€” gives outputs nobody else can replicate. Two businesses can use the exact same AI tools and get wildly different results based entirely on the context they've built around them.

Depth, Integration, Proprietary Context.Β

That's the new stack. That's where the next decade of competitive advantage is going to be built. And almost nobody is building there yet β€” which is exactly why the window is still open.

For now.

The Plateau Most Operators Don't Know They're On

Here's what's quietly happening to most service-based business owners right now…

They started using AI sometime in 2024. They got an early hit of productivity β€” drafted a few emails faster, generated some content, maybe automated a single task. It felt like progress. They told themselves they were "ahead of the curve."

Then they plateaued.

Same handful of prompts. Same two or three tools. Same surface-level use. Six months go by. A year goes by. And nothing actually changed in how their business operates. The AI is still external. The systems are still manual. The owner is still the bottleneck.

Meanwhile, somewhere across town, a competitor decided to actually deploy. They installed AI agents that handle calls 24/7. They put a Conversation AI on their website that's booking appointments at 2am. They built workflows that nurture every lead automatically. Their business runs on AI infrastructure now, not AI tools.

When those two businesses go head-to-head a year from now, it won't be close.

The plateau is dangerous because it doesn't feel like falling behind. It feels like staying current. You're using AI, after all. But staying current and pulling ahead are not the same thing β€” and the gap between them is widening every single week.

The Bottom Line

The AI adoption curve is over. Faster than anyone predicted.

Whether you're using AI is no longer the question worth asking. Everyone is using AI. The real question β€” the one separating the operators who'll dominate the next five years from the ones who'll get quietly squeezed out β€” is how deeply you've deployed it.

Surface use is a habit. Deployment is a moat.

If you don't know where you currently stand on that spectrum, that's actually the first problem to solve. You can't fix what you haven't measured. I've put together a quick self-audit below in this week’s Implementation Blueprint β€” five minutes, straight diagnostic, no fluff. It walks you through the handful of categories where AI deployment matters most, and shows you exactly where your gaps are hiding.

And if you'd rather skip the AI Deployment Audit and have my team and I run a complimentary one on your business directly, I'll show you how to book that in the Implementation Blueprint below.

The adoption window closed. The deployment window is still wide open.

But not for long…

πŸ’‘ Your Implementation Blueprint

Here's where strategy meets action. Each week, we give you the tactical steps to implement what you just learnedβ€”so you can capitalize on the insight immediately.

How to Run Your 5-Minute AI Deployment Audit

The Main Event made the case. Here's the diagnostic to see where you actually stand.

This audit covers the five categories where AI deployment matters most for service-based business owners. For each one, give yourself an honest score from 0 to 2:

  • 0 = Not deployed. Either nothing in place, or a tool I open occasionally.

  • 1 = Partially deployed. Something is running, but it's manual, inconsistent, or disconnected from the rest of my business.

  • 2 = Fully deployed. AI is running this category continuously, in the background, integrated with the rest of my systems.

Read each category. Score honestly. Total at the end.

1. Inbound Calls

When a prospect calls your business after hours, on a weekend, or while you're on another call β€” what happens? If the answer is "voicemail" or "they leave a message and we call back," that's a 0. If you have an AI voice agent answering, qualifying, and booking appointments around the clock, that's a 2.

Your score: ___

2. Website Engagement

A new visitor lands on your website at 9pm. They have a question. What happens next? If they have to fill out a form and wait, that's a 0. If you have a chat widget but it's just a contact form in disguise, that's still a 0. If you have an AI agent engaging visitors in real time, answering questions, and booking appointments without you involved, that's a 2.

Your score: ___

3. Reviews and Reputation

You just got a new Google review. Maybe it's glowing. Maybe it's a complaint. How long until it gets a personalized, on-brand response? If the answer is "days" or "I keep meaning to," that's a 0. If you respond manually but inconsistently, that's a 1. If every review gets a thoughtful AI-generated response within hours, that's a 2.

Your score: ___

4. Content and Communication

How does content actually get produced in your business β€” emails, blog posts, social, follow-up sequences? If you're staring at blank pages or paying a writer per piece, that's a 0. If you're using ChatGPT to draft individual things one at a time, that's a 1. If you have AI systems generating, formatting, and queuing content continuously without you opening a tab, that's a 2.

Your score: ___

5. Workflows and Follow-Up

When a new lead enters your world, what happens automatically? If the answer is "I follow up when I remember," that's a 0. If you have a few basic email sequences but no real intelligence behind them, that's a 1. If you have AI-driven workflows running lead nurture, appointment reminders, and re-engagement campaigns based on actual behavior, that's a 2.

Your score: ___

Tally Your Score

Total: ___ / 10

Here's what your number means:

0–3: Surface User. You're using AI, but it's still external to your business. The systems are manual. The owner is the bottleneck. This is where most operators sit right now β€” and it's the plateau the Main Event warned about.

4–6: Partial Deployer. You've started building, but the systems are disconnected and inconsistent. You're ahead of most, but the moat hasn't formed yet. The categories scoring 0 are where your biggest leverage is hiding.

7–10: Deep Deployer. You're operating in the territory where the real edge lives. Your job now is to deepen the categories scoring 1 and protect what you've built.

What to Do With Your Score

If you scored anywhere from 0 to 6 β€” which is roughly 90% of service-based business owners right now β€” you have a deployment gap. The question isn't whether it needs to get closed. The question is how fast.

You have two options.

Option 1: Build It Yourself. Pick the lowest-scoring category and start there. Block 10 hours over the next month to research the right AI tools, configure them, train them on your business, and integrate them with the rest of your stack. Then move to the next category. Then the next. Most operators who go this route get one or two categories deployed and stall β€” because the configuration is the part nobody warns you about.

Option 2: Have It Built For You. My team and I install a proprietary β€œ7-in-1” AI Agent Suite, a process custom-built for your business β€” Voice AI, Conversation AI, Reviews AI, Content AI, Funnel AI, Workflow AI, plus AI Studio. We've been at the forefront of this technology since day one. We know exactly how to configure these systems so they actually work β€” because the foundation is the part that determines whether the whole thing stands.
